The vast majority of the photographs on this site were taken with a large format (4x5 inch) camera using extremely fine-grained film. This allows for very large prints to be made without any noticeable loss of detail. A small but growing number of the photographs were taken with a digital SLR camera—primarily aerials and others which did not permit the use of a tripod. At large print sizes, these images will not appear as sharp as the large format film images, but they will appear equally sharp at small print sizes. The large difference in the costs of large format film and processing versus digital capture account for the differences in the pricing of prints. The method of capture is noted for each photograph.
Print sizes are listed in inches, and are exact. Prints are cut to size (i.e., no border). Upon request, prints can be hand-signed by the photographer with an archival ink pen.
Two types of prints are available for the photographs: LightJet and Ultrachrome K3. LightJet prints are made on true photographic (i.e., light-sensitive) paper. The prints are processed through traditional photographic chemical techniques and are regarded as being among the sharpest photographic images available. In addition, Fuji Crystal Archive paper is one of the most archival photographic materials made, rated by Wilhelm Imaging Research at over 60 years without fading or color shift. Ultrachrome K3 prints are made on a professional Epson inkjet (a.k.a. "giclée") printer with pigment-based inks. Ultrachrome K3 inks exhibit a very wide color gamut, produce exquisite black & white prints, and have longevity ratings that exceed even LightJet prints. The only practical difference between LightJet prints and Ultrachrome K3 prints is the "look". Some people prefer one look, and some prefer the other. LightJet prints are available on a selection of five Crystal Archive papers, and Ultrachrome K3 prints are available on the superb Hahnemühle Fine Art Pearl paper.
Please feel free to contact me by email if you need a quote for a special order, or if you have any other questions that I may be able to assist you with. I am usually able to respond within a day or two, but it could be much longer if I am travelling.
Prints are generally made-to-order. Please allow three weeks for delivery. This can vary (possibly by several weeks) depending on travel schedules, etc. Special orders are welcome, and generally will not significantly alter pricing, except as materials may dictate. Prints can be made in virtually any size, or on a variety of different papers. Delivery times will usually not be significantly longer for special orders.
Quantity discounts are given for orders of more than one print. Orders of 2-9 prints will receive a 10% discount, while orders of 10 or more prints will receive a 20% discount. The discount applies to ALL prints in the order.
